The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday, called upon the Election Commission to take decisive action against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his controversial remarks made during an INDIA bloc rally held in Delhi, a day prior.
A delegation from the BJP, led by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and the party’s national general secretary Arun Kumar, filed a formal complaint against Gandhi with the poll panel.
Speaking to the press following their meeting with Election Commission officials, Puri condemned Gandhi’s statements during the public gathering as “highly objectionable” and in clear violation of the model code of conduct.
“During the public meeting yesterday, Rahul Gandhi insinuated that the Lok Sabha polls are a ‘fixed match.’ He also alleged that the Central government has infiltrated the Election Commission. Moreover, he cast doubts on the credibility of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and suggested that the Constitution could be altered after the elections,” Puri asserted.
“We have urged the Election Commission to take stringent action against Rahul Gandhi, as well as other Congress leaders and members of the opposition’s INDIA alliance,” he added.
Arun Kumar further criticized Gandhi for repeatedly making such inflammatory remarks and suggested that the Election Commission should consider restricting his ability to speak during the Lok Sabha elections, given his propensity for such comments.
The BJP’s move underscores the intensifying political tensions as the election campaign gains momentum, with parties vying for advantage ahead of the upcoming polls.
