Akshay Shinde’s family seeks court help for burial

Reading Time: 2mins

The family of Akshay Shinde, accused in the Badlapur rape case and later killed in a police encounter, has once again turned to the Bombay High Court for help. Their plea centers around the struggle to find a burial site for Shinde, who has faced difficulties in receiving a final resting place even after his death.

Search for a Burial Site Proves Challenging

Shinde’s family, initially attempting to secure a burial site in Badlapur, met with resistance and were unable to find land for the grave. Their search extended to Ambarnath, yet they faced similar obstacles there. As sources reveal, the family’s persistent efforts have not borne fruit, prompting them to file a fresh petition in the Bombay High Court. The petition was submitted through their legal representative, Amit Katarnavare.

Katarnavare detailed the family’s plight to the court, stating that Shinde’s father, Anna Shinde, had identified a potential burial site in Ambarnath. However, their hopes were once again dashed when local authorities refused to grant permission for the burial.

“He was made to wander the whole day, but the procedure paper was not signed,” Katarnavare explained, voicing the frustration felt by the family in front of the court.

Court’s Response and Law Enforcement Involvement

In response to this distressing situation, the court has taken steps to ensure that no further disruptions occur. The public prosecutor has been directed to maintain law and order in the area.

“Two police officers are posted outside Akshay Shinde’s house so that no untoward incident takes place,” the prosecutor informed the court, while also acknowledging that efforts to locate a suitable cemetery have made some headway, though the situation remains far from resolved.

The court has accepted the family’s petition and is currently reviewing the complex circumstances surrounding Shinde’s burial rights, as the legal proceedings unfold.
