In a significant step towards strengthening the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in Goa, the Commander NCC Group HQ Belagavi Group, Col Mohan Naik, and the CO 1 Goa Bn NCC, Col Jesus Furtado, met with the Hon Sports Minister of Goa, Shri Govind Gaude, on September 19, 2024. The meeting focused on various issues related to the improvement and expansion of NCC in the state.
A key point of discussion was the proposal to establish a NCC Group Headquarters in Margao, Goa. This move would significantly enhance the NCC’s presence and capabilities in the region. Additionally, the officers suggested increasing the existing unit strength of cadets by approximately 4,000. As part of this expansion plan, the establishment of a Second NCC Navy Battalion and Air Squadron in South Goa was also proposed on a demand basis.
To further support the growth of NCC in Goa, the Group Commander proposed the allocation of ten acres of land for an NCC academy. The village of Rivona was suggested as a suitable location for this academy, which would provide dedicated training facilities for NCC cadets from across the state.
To incentivize participation in the NCC and recognize the achievements of cadets, the officers proposed providing educational and employment benefits to those who excel at the Republic Day Parade in Delhi and B & C certificate holders.
The meeting was particularly significant as the Sports Minister is set to attend a conference at the Defence Ministry on September 23, 2024. This conference will discuss the pan India expansion plan of NCC under the Prime Minister’s initiative, making the Goa meeting a timely step in aligning with the national vision for the NCC.
