Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji sworn in as Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court

Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court in a ceremony held at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan in Shillong. The oath of office was administered by Governor CH Vijayashankar.

Justice Mukerji’s appointment follows the retirement of Chief Justice S Vaidyanathan. Prior to this role, Justice Mukerji served as a judge in the Calcutta High Court. His appointment as Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court was confirmed by an order issued by the Department of Justice on September 21.

The order from the Department of Justice stated, “In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji, Judge of the Calcutta High Court, to be Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.”
