In a thrilling start to the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season, Mumbai City FC mounted a spectacular comeback to secure a 2-2 draw against Mohun Bagan Super Giant at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Friday.

Early Dominance by Mohun Bagan
The hosts took an early lead in the 9th minute when a vicious cross from Liston Colaco was spilled by Mumbai City FC goalkeeper Phurba Lachenpa, resulting in an own goal off defender Tiri. Mohun Bagan Super Giant doubled their advantage in the 28th minute when Alberto Rodriguez capitalized on a Greg Stewart header from a corner kick.

Despite trailing by two goals, the reigning ISL cup winners showed remarkable resilience. Their persistence paid off in the 70th minute when Tiri found the net for the Islanders, courtesy of a brilliant delivery from new recruit Nikolaos Karelis.
The equalizer came in dramatic fashion during the dying moments of the match. Substitute Noufal PN, making his ISL debut, provided an assist for Thaer Krouma, who hammered home the equalizer, securing a crucial point for the visitors.

Noufal PN’s ISL debut for Mumbai City FC was particularly noteworthy. The 23-year-old winger came off the bench in the 63rd minute and made an immediate impact, creating two chances and completing 11 of his 14 attempted passes.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant will face NorthEast United on September 23 in a rematch of the Durand Cup 2024 final. Meanwhile, Mumbai City FC will travel to face Jamshedpur FC on September 21, seeking their first win of the season.
