Marking one year since being elected to the Lok Sabha, Captain Viriato Fernandes, Member of Parliament from South Goa, expressed gratitude to voters and party workers who stood by him on his journey.

Speaking at a press briefing, Capt. Fernandes credited the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee, South Goa block committees, and grassroots workers for their unwavering support. “They have been the wind beneath my wings,” he said.

Over the past year, Fernandes used the floor of Parliament to raise several critical issues concerning Goa. These included environmental degradation caused by coal pollution, the Mhadei river dispute, and the double tracking of railway lines. He also advocated for the inclusion of Goan tiatr in UNESCO’s list of intangible heritage, protection of Dabolim airport, and the preservation of religious structures and ecologically sensitive zones.

Key interventions in Parliament included debates on the ST Reservation Bill, Disaster Management, and maritime legislation. As a member of the Defence Committee, Fernandes continued engaging on matters of national security and military modernization.

He emphasized his commitment to addressing Goans’ issues across sectors—tourism, agriculture, education, and employment. From protecting seafarers’ rights to resolving coastal erosion concerns, Capt. Fernandes believes every Goan voice matters.

Looking ahead, he pledged to work not only for South Goa but for the larger good of the state and nation. “With continued public support, we will build a stronger, more resilient Goa,” he concluded.
