In a heartening initiative aimed at reviving Goa’s agricultural roots, Capt. Viriato Fernandes joined hands with the Chicalim Youth Farmers Club and students from Regina Mundi School, Navy Children School, and MES College to kick-start the paddy cultivation season in Chicalim.
The drive was supported by officers and staff from the Zonal Agricultural Office, Mormugao, whose efforts were key to making the initiative a success.
“We need to revive our agriculture sector and ensure our young develop a love for it. It’s time for the next generation to take up the plough and embrace the profession with pride,” Capt. Fernandes said.
Following the morning of fieldwork, the students were treated to a traditional Goan meal of pez, kismoor, and miskut, prepared by Mrs. Martina Mesquita. Her culinary touch made the experience memorable, connecting the hands-on farming session with the warmth of Goan hospitality.
