In a meticulously executed operation, the Crime Branch of Goa Police has successfully confiscated what officials are calling the largest drug haul in the state’s history. The contraband, suspected to be cocaine worth an astonishing Rs 43.2 crore, was cleverly concealed in seemingly innocent packages of chocolate, wafers, and coffee.
The raid, conducted near Chicolna bus stand in Mormugao, resulted in the arrest of three individuals allegedly involved in this sophisticated trafficking operation. The prime suspect, 45-year-old Nibu Vincent from Kolkata, was caught red-handed with approximately 4.325 kilograms of white powder substance, initially identified as cocaine.
PI Laxi G. Amonkar led the Crime Branch team, which included PI Prashal Dessai and several other officers who executed the operation with precision. Following Vincent’s apprehension, authorities conducted technical surveillance that led to the arrest of two alleged accomplices, Reshma Wadekar and her husband Manguesh Wadekar, both residents of Harbour Road in Mormugao.
Initial investigation suggests that Reshma Wadekar obtained the illicit consignment and was planning to distribute it throughout Goa. The drugs, ingeniously hidden in ordinary-looking wafer and coffee packets, are suspected to have been smuggled from abroad.
“This represents a significant victory in our ongoing battle against drug trafficking in the state,” said SP Crime Rahul Gupta, IPS, who is supervising the investigation.
As the inquiry deepens, PI Laxi G. Amonkar, under the supervision of DYSP Crime Branch-1 Rajesh Kumar, continues to work diligently to uncover additional connections in this elaborate drug network. Authorities are particularly focused on tracing both the source of the contraband and intended distribution channels.
