After months away from the spotlight, Kate Middleton returned to public life with a visit to Colchester Hospital in Essex, marking a significant step in her recovery. The Princess of Wales, who is in remission from cancer, engaged with hospital staff and patients and took part in planting Catherine’s Rose, a new pink variety named in her honour. The rose is being distributed to hospitals and healing gardens across the U.K. as a symbol of resilience and recovery.
During the visit on July 2, Kate, 43, was candid about the post-treatment phase of her illness. “You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment, treatment’s done, then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,’ but actually, the phase afterward is really, really difficult,” she said, as quoted by People magazine.
Her reappearance comes shortly after she missed the Royal Ascot, an absence she was reportedly disappointed about. According to sources cited by People, the Princess is cautiously resuming her royal duties while prioritising her health.
In January, Kate announced she was in remission and focusing on her recovery. She reiterated this message in an Instagram post shared by the Palace. “It is a relief to now be in remission, and I remain focused on recovery,” she wrote, alongside a photo of her speaking with a chemotherapy patient. “As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am, however, looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support.”
Her appearance in Colchester is being viewed as a careful, hopeful re-entry into public engagements, reflecting both her commitment and the realities of recovery.
