Honorable South Goa Lok Sabha MP Capt. Viriato Fernandes today officially handed over a brand-new school bus to St. Anthony High School, Majorda. The bus has been sanctioned under the MPLAD (Members of Parliament Local Area Development) fund, aimed at improving infrastructure and accessibility for students.
The handover ceremony was marked by a lively gathering of students, staff, ex-students and local representatives. Capt. Fernandes, who was warmly received by the school community, also participated in an interactive session with students following the formal inauguration.
Present at the event were Additional Collector (II) Shri Ramesh Gaonkar, School Manager Fr. Isidore Dias, Headmistress Ms. Laura Braganza, Majorda-Utorda-Calata Sarpanch and Panchayat members, South Goa District Congress President Savio D’Silva, Goa Congress General Secretary Everson Vales, Nuvem Block Congress President Morrison Rodrigues, as well as teachers, PTA members, and local residents.
In his address, Capt. Viriato highlighted the importance of reliable transport for school children, especially in rural areas like Majorda. “Education must be accessible and safe. This school bus is a small but significant step in ensuring our children have the right support to pursue their studies with confidence,” he said.
The event concluded with words of thanks from the school management and enthusiastic applause from the students, many of whom expressed excitement over their new school transport.
