Goa Medical College Secures Victory in Inter-Collegiate Chess

The prestigious Inter-Collegiate Chess (Mix) Championship for the 2023-24 season, organized by Goa University, witnessed Goa Medical College, Bambolim, clinching the championship trophy. The thrilling tournament took place on August 1st and 2nd, 2023, at the Anand Keni Hall, Sridora Caculo College of Commerce & Management Studies in Mapusa. This marked the first instance of Goa University hosting the chess championship within a fully air-conditioned hall.

The title of runners-up went to Goa College of Engineering, Fatorda, while Dhempe College of Arts and Science, Miramar, secured the third position in the championship.

Mr. Anvesh Bandekar from Goa Medical College, Bambolim, was honored with the Best Player award for his outstanding performance.

The championship’s chief guest, Prof. Santosh Patkar, Principal of Sridora Caculo College of Commerce & Management Studies, Mapusa, and the guest of honor, Mr. Arvind Mhamal, International Arbiter, along with Mr. Balachandra B. Jadar, Assistant Director of Physical Education and Sports at Goa University, presented the winners with their well-deserved trophies during the event.

Goa Medical College, Bambolim’s triumphant team comprised Maeron Pereira, Soham Naik, Vaibhav Pednekar, Anvesh Bandekar, Christley Pereira, and Anish Molio.

The representatives of Goa College of Engineering, Farmagudi, included Nivesh M. Naik, Shivank Kuncolienkar, Madhavan Ganesan, Zishan Khan, Akhilesh A. Nigalye, and Swayam Bambolkar.

The tournament, conducted with a rapid time control of 30 minutes each without increment from move 1, employed the Swiss-System for teams. The event featured 6 rounds and was held at the Sridora Caculo College in Khorlim, Mapusa, Goa.
