Indian Shooters nail MYAS Funding for ISSF Shooting Worlds

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) has extended funding to support 34 Indian shooters participating in the upcoming ISSF World Championships to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan. This contingent comprises 17 male and 17 female shooters, with 31 of them being beneficiaries of either the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) or the Khelo India Scheme.

The financial assistance provided by MYAS will encompass the participation costs for a team of 57 members, including the 34 shooters, 15 coaches, and 8 support staff members, including the High-Performance Director (HPD). This aid will encompass various expenses such as boarding, lodging, airfare, visa fees, and Out of Pocket Allowance (OPA), all falling under the ambit of the MYAS Annual Calendar for Training & Competition (ACTC) Scheme.

Among the participating shooters, 24 are part of the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), while 7 have been selected under the Khelo India Athletes category. The ISSF World Championships event is scheduled to commence on 14 August, 2023, and conclude on September 1st, 2023. This prestigious event is of great significance for India as it offers a possibility of 48 Olympic Quotas across 15 events, which holds particular importance in the lead-up to the Paris Olympics.

During the 2022 edition of the ISSF Shooting World Championships, India’s exceptional performance yielded 34 medals, including 12 Gold, 9 Silver, and 13 Bronze, securing the second position in the overall medals tally, following China.
