CPI(M) Leader Sitaram Yechury in critical condition at AIIMS

Sitaram Yechury, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], is currently in critical condition at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, according to a statement released by the party on Tuesday.

The 72-year-old veteran politician is receiving respiratory support in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as he battles a severe respiratory infection. A team of doctors is closely monitoring his condition, the party informed.

Yechury was initially admitted to AIIMS on August 19 for treatment of a chest infection that resembled pneumonia. His condition has since deteriorated, necessitating intensive care.

The CPI(M) shared an update on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), stating, “Comrade Sitaram Yechury, General Secretary of Communist Party of India (Marxist), is in the intensive care unit of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, being treated for an acute respiratory tract infection.”

As a prominent figure in Indian politics, Yechury’s health status has drawn significant attention. The CPI(M) has promised to provide further updates as they become available.
