In a thrilling Indian Super League encounter, Chennaiyin FC staged a remarkable second-half comeback to defeat Odisha FC 3-2 at the Kalinga Stadium. The match, which saw Odisha take an early lead, was turned on its head by Farukh Choudhary’s brace and Daniel Chima Chukwu’s strike.
The Juggernauts, started the game strongly and were rewarded with a penalty in the 8th minute when goalkeeper Samik Mitra brought down Hugo Boumous. Diego Mauricio calmly converted from the spot to give the hosts the lead.
Chennaiyin FC, however, showed resilience and created chances of their own. Connor Shields tested Amrinder Singh with a long-range effort, while Daniel Chima Chukwu set up Farukh Choudhary, who missed from close range.
The second half saw a dramatic turn of events as Farukh Choudhary scored twice in quick succession. His first goal came in the 48th minute, tapping in a cross from Connor Shields. Just three minutes later, he capitalized on a goalkeeping error by Amrinder Singh, with his shot taking a fortunate deflection off Ahmed Jahouh to find the net.
Chennaiyin FC extended their lead in the 69th minute when Daniel Chima Chukwu brilliantly finished Laldinliana Renthlei’s cross, giving Amrinder Singh no chance.
Odisha FC managed to pull one back in stoppage time through Roy Krishna, but it proved to be too little, too late for the hosts.
Farukh Choudhary emerged as the key performer of the match, showcasing his return to form after a long injury layoff. His brace and overall menacing presence troubled the Odisha FC defense throughout the game.
