In an intense battle at the 32nd Curtorim Panchayat Cup, St. Anthony FC Assolda overcame SC Davorlim via a nail-biting 5-4 tie-breaker, securing their place in the quarter-finals of the prestigious tournament. Organized by Curtorim Gymkhana, the game provided plenty of drama, with both teams delivering a hard-fought contest that kept spectators on edge until the very end.
The match began with Assolda on the front foot, applying relentless pressure on the Davorlim defense. However, they struggled to capitalize on several clear-cut chances early on. Their persistence finally paid off in the 15th minute when Succor Fernandes launched a stunning long-range effort that left the Davorlim goalkeeper helpless, giving Assolda a 1-0 lead.
Not resting on their laurels, Assolda quickly doubled their advantage with a superb finish from Alreach Peixoto, making it 2-0 by the end of the first half. Despite their commanding lead, the second half would prove far more challenging for the Assolda side.
SC Davorlim came out with renewed determination after the break, and their efforts bore fruit when Prince Figueiredo found the net with a clever placement into the bottom left corner, narrowing the score to 2-1. Figueiredo wasn’t done yet—he equalized for Davorlim in the 45th minute, setting up a tense final stretch.
Assolda responded with yet another goal, this time through Akram Yadwad, whose powerful header restored their lead to 3-2 in the 50th minute. But in the dying moments of the game, Prince Figueiredo completed his hat-trick, leveling the score at 3-3 and sending the match into a nerve-wracking tie-breaker.
In the decisive penalty shootout, Assolda proved to be the better side, with successful spot-kicks from Succor Fernandes, Akram Yadwad, Alreach Peixoto, Joaquin Carvalho, and Fayden. Davorlim managed to score through William Niasso, Prince Figueiredo, Aaron Figueiredo, and Milton Colaco, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Assolda’s sharp shooters.
At the end of the match, Rosy Paes, Panch of VP Curtorim, awarded the Man of the Match to Akram Yadwad of St. Anthony FC Assolda for his standout performance.
