In a tragic and shocking event, a 24-year-old woman has died following a clandestine abortion procedure performed at her home in Pune, Maharashtra. The police have arrested the woman’s husband and father-in-law, while her mother-in-law has also been booked for involvement in the incident.
According to law enforcement, the investigation uncovered that the woman’s four-month-old fetus was buried on the family’s farm after the procedure. The police are also scrutinizing the role of a private doctor who was called in to perform the abortion.
The woman, who had married the accused in 2017, was already a mother of two children, a girl and a boy. Police suspect that when the family learned the fetus was female, they arranged for an illegal abortion to be carried out at their residence.
“On Sunday, the woman’s condition worsened due to heavy bleeding. She was rushed to the hospital the following day but unfortunately passed away en route,” stated an officer from the Indapur police station.
The incident came to light when the deceased woman’s brother filed a formal complaint. Following the complaint, the woman’s husband and father-in-law were immediately taken into custody. The fetus was exhumed from the farm and has been sent for a postmortem examination.
The police have registered the case at the Indapur Police Station of Pune Rural Police under sections 91, 90, and 85 of the BNS, and the investigation into the matter is ongoing.
