The Catholic Association of Goa (CAG) has urged the Director of Education, Shailesh Bingre, to reconsider a circular directing schools to mandatorily observe International Yoga Day on Sunday, June 21.
CAG President Cyril Fernandes said the directive would affect not only Catholic teachers but also teaching and non-teaching staff, students and their families across the state.
Fernandes said holding the event at 6 am on a Sunday would cause significant inconvenience, particularly as special education schools have also been included in the directive.
He suggested that schools be allowed to conduct Yoga Day activities on another date instead of a Sunday.
“Yoga Day need not be celebrated on International Yoga Day but on any other day as Health is an Everyday Issue,” Fernandes said.
The association has requested the Education Department to review the circular and consider an alternative date for the observance.
