The Mormugao Port Authority’s proposed removal of a statue at Headland Sada, scheduled for April 16, 2026, has been deferred following a review by district authorities.
The move was initially planned in compliance with directions issued by the High Court. However, officials have now decided to postpone the action, citing the need for adequate security arrangements.
A meeting convened by the Collector Egna Cleetus brought together senior officials, including the Superintendent of Police, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Mamlatdar, Police Inspector, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, and representatives of the Mormugao Port Authority. The situation was assessed in detail during the meeting.

Authorities jointly concluded that the removal would require the deployment of armed police personnel to ensure that law and order is maintained during the process.
“It was jointly decided to defer the proposed removal of the statue, considering the requirement for adequate deployment of armed police forces and to ensure that necessary arrangements are put in place to maintain law and order,” officials stated.
Further action will be taken after a fresh assessment of the situation, with coordination among all concerned departments expected to determine the next course of action.
