UIDAI has launched its first structured bug bounty programme to strengthen the security of Aadhaar digital platforms. Selected cybersecurity researchers will identify vulnerabilities and report them responsibly for rewards.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched its first structured Bug Bounty Programme aimed at strengthening the security of the Aadhaar ecosystem.

The initiative invites cybersecurity experts to identify potential vulnerabilities across several UIDAI digital platforms. Researchers who detect genuine security issues and report them responsibly will receive rewards based on the severity of the vulnerability.

A panel of 20 experienced security researchers and ethical hackers has been selected to participate in the programme. The experts will examine key UIDAI digital assets including the official UIDAI website, the myAadhaar portal, and the Secure QR Code application.

The researchers will test the platforms for vulnerabilities categorised as Critical, High, Medium, and Low risk. Rewards will be provided depending on the seriousness of the issue discovered.

UIDAI is implementing the programme in partnership with ComOlho IT Private Limited, a cybersecurity solutions provider.

The authority said strengthening information security remains a priority in the evolving digital environment. UIDAI already deploys multiple layers of protection such as regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and continuous monitoring.

The Bug Bounty Programme introduces an additional layer of scrutiny by allowing independent experts to assess the platforms and report potential risks.

Such programmes are widely adopted by major technology platforms worldwide as a way to strengthen digital systems and ensure long-term resilience.
