Putin urges stronger BRICS tech ties with focus on AI and innovation. New business cooperation committee set up to drive joint projects.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has called for stronger technological collaboration among BRICS nations, highlighting the role of innovation in driving economic cooperation.

Speaking at a congress of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, Putin said Russia would prioritise partnerships within the BRICS bloc, particularly in key technology sectors.

The remarks coincided with the inaugural meeting of the National Committee for Business Cooperation within BRICS, established earlier this year through a presidential decree. Putin urged Russian businesses to actively engage with the committee and contribute to expanding economic ties.

He said Russia would continue offering incentives to companies investing in modernising production capabilities based on domestic technological strengths. The focus, he added, would be on advancing artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and digital platforms.

Putin also pointed to opportunities for broader international collaboration, especially with countries in the Asia-Pacific and Southern Eurasia regions, with BRICS positioned as a central platform for such engagement.

During the meeting, members finalised the committee’s structure and operational framework. Maksim Oreshkin, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office, has been appointed chairman of the body.

The committee includes representatives from major Russian companies and is expected to work on proposals to strengthen economic cooperation within BRICS. Discussions also covered expanding Russia’s role in the BRICS Business Council and promoting joint initiatives across sectors such as science, industry, agriculture, infrastructure, and logistics.
