Global Romi Lipi Abhiyan (GRLA) will organise the “Poilem Ithiasik Sahitya ani Sonskrutik Maha Somellon” on May 30, 2026, coinciding with Goa Statehood Day. The event will be held from 9 am to 6 pm at Ratzinger AC Hall, Verna.
The theme of the Maha Sammelan, “Konkni Avoiche Vengen Ravum-ya”, will focus on fostering unity among the five scripts of the Konkni language. The day-long programme will include group discussions under the theme “Unity in Diversity”, alongside cultural presentations showcasing Konkni’s rich heritage through dance, song and music.
A key agenda of the Sammelan will be the proposal to adopt the flag designed by the late Eric Ozario as the official flag of the Konkni language.
According to GRLA, the Sammelan aims to bring together delegates and associations representing all five Konkni scripts on a single platform. The objective is to strengthen cooperation and ensure the protection and development of each script while preserving the language’s diversity.
The organisation plans to reach out to Konkni associations across India and abroad to seek support and participation. Resolutions passed during the Sammelan will reflect the collective voice of representatives from all five scripts, following structured dialogues and discussions.
The idea of uniting the scripts was first presented by Kennedy Afonso through a presentation in Mangalore. The late Eric Ozario supported the initiative and worked towards building consensus among Konkni associations. GRLA said the Sammelan is being organised as a tribute to Ozario’s contribution and vision.
GRLA also announced plans to hold the Maha Sammelan annually in different parts of India, with a long-term goal of taking it to Konkni communities worldwide.
