Mandd Sobhann announced its First World Konkani Music Mega-Convention at a logo launch and press meet held in Margao on Friday, outlining plans for a large-scale cultural event that will bring together Konkani musicians from across India and abroad.

The convention is scheduled to take place from November 3 to November 15, 2026, in Mangalore, and will include an attempt to enter the Guinness Book of World Records through a marathon singing event.

Founded in 1986, Mandd Sobhann has worked towards preserving, promoting, and enriching the Konkani language and culture. The organisation, whose name means “a beautiful stage,” is currently marking its Ruby Jubilee, completing 40 years of activity.

Over the years, Mandd Sobhann has expanded its presence across multiple cultural formats including music, theatre, and literature. Its initiatives include Mandd Sobhann, Angann Sobhann, Gumatt Sobhann, Bhuirgyallam Sobhann, Baila Prayog, Nach Sobhann, Dabazo and Bosni, along with events such as Mando Fest, Porob, Sanath, Baila International, Punav, Mando Utsav, Konkani Nirantari, Global Konkani Music Awards, Kalakul and its monthly theatre series.

The organisation has conducted more than 2,153 performances across India and internationally, covering 35 different formats. Its monthly theatre series, which began on January 2, 2002, has presented 292 programmes without interruption as of April 2026.

The upcoming convention, planned in honour of Founder and Gurkar Eric Ozario, will bring together thousands of Konkani singers. A key highlight will be an attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by multiple singers, expected to run for 12 days, 12 hours and 12 minutes.

Organisers said participation is expected from singers across Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Kerala, along with international representation from countries including the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and Australia. Thousands of Konkani songs are expected to be performed during the event by participants from multiple communities.

The convention will also feature seminars on topics such as folk music, religious music, music for health, Mangalorean Konkani traditions, international music, baila, cinema music, music composition, artificial intelligence in music, copyright and intellectual property rights, and music production technology.

In addition, the programme will include a Hall of Fame honouring veterans in the field of music and exhibitions related to Konkani culture.
