The Institute of Chartered Tax Practitioners of India (ICTPI) will host its 4th Convocation Ceremony in Goa, marking the first time the event is being conducted in the state. The three-day programme, organised in coordination with the All Goa Tax Practitioners Association, will bring together tax professionals, academicians, and policymakers.

ICTPI Chairman Sridhar Parthasarathy confirmed that the event follows earlier convocations held in Delhi, Bangalore, and Cochin. “This is the 4th Convocation Ceremony we are conducting at Goa,” he said, adding that the institute is a government-recognised body for statutorily enrolled tax practitioners in India.

The programme will begin on the 6th with delegate registrations and briefings. The main sessions are scheduled for May 7 and 8, with a mix of oath-taking ceremonies, professional discussions, and a convocation event.

On May 7, an oath-taking ceremony will be held between 3 pm and 4.30 pm. “Honorable Dr. Lalit Lata Jha, Dean of Parul University, Goa is administering the oath to the newly qualified chartered tax practitioners and certifies public accountants,” Parthasarathy said. He added that Income Tax Commissioner (TDS) Satish Meriga, will attend as guest of honour.

The event will also see the unveiling of the All India Taxpayers Foundation and the Federation of Tax Practitioners of India, along with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between professional bodies. “We are also happy to exchange an MOU with the Indian Institute of Public Auditors,” he said, noting participation from senior professionals.

Evening programmes on May 7 include cultural events and a formal dinner, where office bearers and newly qualified members will formally take their oath.

The second day, May 8, will focus on professional development, with sessions on Artificial Intelligence, the Data Protection Act, Income Tax practices, ethics, and UDIN-related compliance. “There will be deliberation of day for Artificial Intelligence… Data Protection Act, Income Tax and all professional ethics and all other things,” Parthasarathy said.

The convocation ceremony is scheduled for 4 pm on May 8, with Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant as the chief guest and Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sadanand Tanawade expected to attend as the guest of honour. The programme will conclude with a valedictory function and dinner later in the evening.

Pathasarathy said the evolving role of tax practitioners is central to the event’s vision. “In olden days they are actually tasted as sugar and salt exploited as brand-less groceries. Now we got an arena and a higher path… we are going to become the public accountants as well as the public auditors as well as the internal auditors,” he said.

The All Goa Tax Practitioners Association welcomed the collaboration, calling it a significant milestone for the state. “This is the first time that this event is taking place in Goa and I would appeal all the tax practitioners in Goa to get themselves certified as chartered tax practitioners,” Shripad Parab, President of AGTPA, said.

The association also highlighted the opportunity for professional advancement. “This is a big opportunity… let’s get in the main course in this tax practice,” he added, urging Goan practitioners to register with ICTPI and undergo certification through formal examinations.

Founded in 1992, the Goa Tax Practitioners Association is affiliated with a national institute based in Bangalore. Members said the convocation would help elevate professional standards in Goa and encourage wider participation in structured certification programmes.

Industry bodies including the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Batuka Academy are also supporting the event, particularly in academic and capacity-building initiatives.

Organisers said the three-day programme aims to strengthen the role of tax practitioners in India’s evolving regulatory and financial ecosystem while positioning Goa as a key hub for professional development in the sector.
