The Agricos Alumni Association, in collaboration with Our Lady of Rosary Church, Navelim, will organise the Konkan Fruit Fiesta 2026 from May 15 to May 17 at the Rosary School Ground in Navelim, Salcete.

The three-day event, open to the public with free entry, will run daily from 10 am to 8 pm and aims to celebrate the fruit diversity of Goa and the wider Konkan region. Organisers have lined up a mix of fruit exhibitions, stalls, competitions, plants, value-added products and cultural activities including music.

Multiple competitions scheduled across three days

Ahead of the main event, a Fresh Fruits Competition will be held on May 14 at the same venue. The competition is open to all age groups with no entry fee. Participants are required to present locally grown fruits of Goa in specified quantities, ensuring the produce is ripe and properly packed. Entries will be accepted between 10 am and 3 pm, with judging based on physical appearance and sensory attributes such as colour, taste and flavour.

On May 15, the focus shifts to value-added produce with the Fruit Products Competition and Best Honey Competition. Participants must present homemade products made from local fruits, including items such as pickles, jams, juices, cakes and wines. Entries will be judged on visual appeal, uniqueness and flavour. The honey competition requires participants to submit samples in labelled glass jars, with judging conducted by professional beekeepers and food technologists.

May 16 will feature a Fancy Dress Competition and a Banana and Watermelon Eating Competition. The fancy dress event encourages participants to dress as fruits, plants, farmers or other agriculture-related themes, with judging based on creativity, costume and presentation. The eating competition will test speed and consumption, with participants required to bring their own fruit and adhere to strict rules including no use of knives.

The final day, May 17, will host an Eco Art Competition for children aged 6 to 15. Participants must create artwork using only natural materials such as leaves, seeds, flowers and sand, with the theme centred on biodiversity. Judging will focus on creativity, use of materials, neatness and relevance to the theme.

Community participation and outreach

Organisers said the event aims to bring together farmers, producers, students and the public under one platform, encouraging awareness about local agriculture and sustainable practices. Winners across competitions will receive cash prizes and certificates.

In addition to scheduled contests, visitors can participate in on-the-spot activities such as guessing the weight of fruits, further adding to the interactive nature of the fiesta.
