Fourteen women workers of the Congress joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Ponda in the presence of AAP Senior Vice President Sandesh Teleikar Dessai and Mamata Maben.

Among those who joined the party were Sushmita Sawant, Juliana Pinto, Yasmin Khan and Fareeda Jakhil, along with several other women workers from different parts of the constituency.

The newly inducted members said they were drawn to AAP’s approach to governance and decision-making.

Speaking on the occasion, Dessai said the party was witnessing increasing support from grassroots workers across Goa. He said the development reflected growing trust among people in the party’s political approach.

“People of Goa are now recognising AAP as the only credible and strong alternative to the BJP. While other parties have failed to provide a stable opposition, AAP has continued to stand firmly with the people and fight for their rights. This growing support from grassroots workers shows that Goans are placing their faith in honest and accountable politics,” Dessai said.

Mamata Maben, who recently resigned from the Congress and joined AAP, said her decision followed her observation of the party’s work in the state.

“I have personally seen the work done by AAP in Goa. Even without being in power, the party has taken concrete initiatives for the welfare of people. AAP has opened 32 polyclinics across Goa, established e-libraries in the constituencies it won, and provided free medical assistance to people in need. What impressed me most is that AAP believes in democratic decision-making and actively involves grassroots workers in shaping the party’s direction,” Maben said.

The women who joined the party said they had decided to support AAP despite pressure from other political groups. They said they would work towards strengthening the party’s organisation in the constituency.

AAP leaders said the party was seeing a steady influx of grassroots workers and leaders from other parties, particularly in Ponda and other parts of Goa.
