In a commanding display in the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy, Goa defeated Hyderabad by 51 runs in an Elite Group Women’s List-A match at the JSCA Oval Ground in Ranchi.
Electing to bat, Goa overcame an early setback to post a formidable 294 for 8 in 50 overs, riding on a sensational unbeaten century by Purvaja Verlekar.
Goa were jolted at the start, losing Harshita Yadav and Vinavi Gurav without scoring. However, Purvaja steadied the innings with composure and authority. She anchored the innings from start to finish, scoring a magnificent 166 not out off 152 balls, striking 19 fours and two sixes.
Purvaja first rebuilt the innings alongside Tanisha Gaikwad, adding crucial runs to take Goa past the 100-run mark. The defining partnership came with Poorva Bhaidkar, as the duo shifted gears to move Goa from consolidation to dominance. Poorva contributed a steady 37, ensuring the momentum was maintained through the middle overs.
Late contributions, including 22 from Athashree Shivarkar, helped Goa push close to the 300-run mark and set a challenging target.
In response, Hyderabad began positively with G. Trisha (33) and Sandhya Gora (83) putting on 72 runs for the opening wicket. Sandhya anchored the chase with a patient knock, but regular wickets at the other end stalled progress.

Goa’s bowlers struck at key intervals to prevent Hyderabad from building sustained partnerships. Shreya Parab led the attack with figures of 3 for 35, applying pressure in the middle overs. She received support from Pooja Kalel, Tejashwini Duragad, Poorva Bhaidkar and Purvaja Verlekar, who claimed timely wickets.
After the dismissal of Sandhya Gora, Hyderabad lost momentum. The side was eventually bowled out for 243 in 46.5 overs, falling 51 runs short.
