Actor Soha Ali Khan on her father’s birth anniversary visited Eden Gardens in Kolkata to remember the late former Indian cricket captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi.
Soha shared a video on Instagram showing her walking through the empty stadium, interspersed with archival clips from the historic December 1974 Test match against the West Indies, one of Indian cricket’s most talked-about victories.
In a note accompanying the video, she reflected on her father’s deep connection with Eden Gardens, writing that while the stadium may be quiet, it still carries his memories. She recalled that the ground was one he loved to play on and where he captained India on several occasions.
Referring to the 1974 Test, Soha recounted an incident in which a delivery from West Indies fast bowler Andy Roberts struck Pataudi on the face, fracturing his cheekbone. She noted that despite being injured, he returned to lead India to an 85-run victory, a match widely regarded as one of Indian cricket’s most iconic wins.
“The stands still remember you, the cricketer. I remember my Abba. Both belong here,” she wrote, wishing him on his birthday.
Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, fondly known as Tiger Pataudi, captained India during a transformative phase in Indian cricket and remains one of the country’s most respected cricketing figures.
