The All Goa Drivers Union (AGDU) has formally lodged a complaint with the Superintendent of Police, South Goa, against Dixon Vaz, the Sarpanch of Cavelossim Panchayat, accusing him of instigating the local public against taxi operators from outside the village and allegedly creating a law-and-order situation.

In a detailed letter dated July 15, the union has objected to multiple public statements made by Vaz, which are reportedly being circulated on social media. These statements allege that taxi operators from outside Cavelossim are entering the village without valid permits, conducting illegal pick-up and drop services, and operating unlawfully in the area. According to the Sarpanch’s claims, such practices have led to multiple conflicts between local and non-local operators.

Vaz has further alleged that outside taxi operators forcibly enter Cavelossim to pick up tourists and often instigate fights with local taxi drivers. AGDU, however, has strongly refuted all these claims, branding them as false and misleading.

“All the members of AGDU follow proper legal norms and only operate on-call bookings. We do not pick up guests from specific points without prior arrangements,” the union clarified in its letter. It also added that the union comprises around 500 registered members and that they adhere strictly to state guidelines and regulations.

The complaint also alleges that AGDU members have, in the past, been assaulted by local taxi operators while lawfully fulfilling bookings in the area. The union has accused Vaz of making inflammatory remarks with the intention of provoking locals and inciting unrest.

Calling for immediate and stringent action, AGDU urged police authorities to hold Sarpanch Dixon Vaz accountable and maintain law and order in the region by preventing any further provocations or incidents.
