Carlos Ferreira criticises govt spending priorities and delays in panchayat works, assuring Aldona residents projects will be completed.

Carlos Ferreira on Thursday criticised the state government over what he termed wasteful expenditure and delays in clearing files for local development works, while assuring residents that ongoing projects in Aldona would be completed.

He was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony for the repair of gutter drainage from the residence of Premnath Polle to a pond at Podwal in Ward No. 8 of VP Aldona under the MLA-LAD scheme.

The project, initially estimated at Rs 25 lakh, has been awarded for Rs 23 lakh and is scheduled for completion within 90 days.

Addressing the gathering, Ferreira said that while procedural delays were slowing down works, he would ensure that projects are executed “on time and in a professional manner.”

He also alleged that the government was prioritising expenditure on large projects while neglecting basic infrastructure in villages.

“The government is spending Rs 57 crore for a race track, Rs 16 crore for a stadium in Verna. They don’t have money for roads and gutters. Nothing gets done under the panchayat funds. If the files are sent, they are sent back saying there are no funds and all the funds are spent on salaries,” he said.

Ferreira further stated that proposals for road restoration had already been submitted but were moving slowly through the system.

“Files to restore the roads have also been submitted. The process may be slow because we are in the opposition, but I assure my people that the work will be done and I will follow them up to the logical conclusion,” he said.

He added that his entry into politics was driven by public service rather than personal gain.

“I have not joined politics to promote my personal interest nor to make money but for the welfare of the people,” he said.
