Assembly By-Polls Announced for 8 Seats Including Ponda

By-elections will be held in eight Assembly constituencies across six states. Polling for Goa’s Ponda seat will take place on April 9.

The Election Commission of India has announced by-elections for eight Assembly constituencies across six states, including the Ponda seat in Goa.

Polling for constituencies in Goa, Karnataka, Nagaland and Tripura will take place on April 9, while voting in Gujarat and Maharashtra will be held on April 23. Counting of votes for all constituencies will be conducted on May 4.

The by-poll in Goa will be held in the 21-Ponda Assembly constituency following the death of sitting MLA Ravi Naik.

According to the election schedule, the gazette notification for constituencies in Goa, Karnataka, Nagaland and Tripura will be issued on March 16. The last date for filing nominations is March 23, while scrutiny of nominations will take place on March 24.

Candidates will be able to withdraw their nominations until March 26.

For the constituencies in Gujarat and Maharashtra, the gazette notification will be issued on March 30. The last date for nominations is April 6, followed by scrutiny on April 7. Candidates may withdraw their nominations until April 9.

Polling in these constituencies will be held on April 23.

The by-elections were necessitated following the deaths of sitting legislators in the respective constituencies.

Other seats where by-polls will be conducted include Umreth in Gujarat, Bagalkot and Davanagere South in Karnataka, Rahuri and Baramati in Maharashtra, Koridang in Nagaland, and Dharmanagar in Tripura.

The election process for these constituencies will conclude by May 6.
