Assam is set to conduct its Assembly elections on April 9, with officials confirming that all necessary preparations have been completed across the state.

Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel said polling teams have been trained and infrastructure has been put in place at polling stations. Facilities such as ramps, wheelchairs, electricity, toilets, and drinking water have been arranged. A mobile deposit pouch system has also been introduced.

Special provisions have been made for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and pregnant women, including separate queues and volunteer assistance.

A total of 31,490 polling stations have been established across 126 constituencies, catering to approximately 25.05 million voters. This includes over 642,000 first-time voters.

Security arrangements have been intensified, with around 800 companies of Central Armed Police Forces deployed. Sensitive areas have been identified based on past incidents and Election Commission guidelines. Borders will be sealed 48 hours before polling.

Authorities said 100 per cent webcasting will be carried out at all polling stations to ensure transparency. Additional security personnel will be deployed in vulnerable locations, and central government-appointed micro-observers will monitor the process.

Nearly 200,000 civil polling staff and 100,000 police personnel will be on duty. Officials also reported seizures of drugs, illegal liquor, and cash during the pre-election period, with verified amounts returned.

Officials have appealed to voters to participate in large numbers, assuring that the election process will be conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.
