The Goa Football Association (GFA) has approved a series of governance and football development measures, including fresh representations to preserve the historic Campal Ground, implementation of the new All India Football Federation (AIFF) Constitution, and the creation of a formal players’ association.
The resolutions were adopted during a meeting of the GFA Executive Committee and are expected to shape the administration of football in Goa over the coming months.
GFA to renew efforts over Campal Ground
The Executive Committee resolved to make formal representations to the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP), the Panaji MLA and the Chief Minister regarding the future of Campal Ground.
The association said the venue holds historical and sporting importance for football in Goa and that it intends to pursue measures to protect its continued use for the game.
GFA President Dr. Caitano Fernandes said the association had already been pursuing the matter for several years.
“The Campal Ground issue has come into focus now. However, as an Association, we have been writing to the relevant authorities on this matter since 2023.”
According to GFA, letters have previously been sent to the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) and the concerned minister.
AIFF Constitution to be adopted by October
The Executive Committee also resolved to implement the revised AIFF Constitution within the GFA by October 2026.
The association will circulate a draft amended constitution to its members before convening a Special General Meeting to consider the proposed amendments.
The process is expected to be completed by Oct. 20, 2026, subject to the formation of the proposed Players’ Association.
Dr. Fernandes said: “We hope to be the first State Association in India to amend its Constitution in line with the provisions of the National Sports Governance Act and the AIFF Constitution.”
Players’ Association to be formed
The Executive Committee also approved the initiation of the GFA Players Association and will invite applications from eligible players.
According to the association, the body is intended to provide footballers with a formal platform to represent their collective interests and contribute to the development of football in Goa.
Eligibility criteria, the application process and timelines will be announced separately.
Dr. Fernandes said: “Players have always been the most important stakeholders in Goan football and we hope to create the GFA Players Association as soon as possible.”
Former India international Maymol Rocky, along with Executive Committee members Sanjiv Nagvenkar and Cosme Oliveira, has been tasked with engaging players and facilitating the formation of the association.
