The Centre has convened an all-party meeting on July 19th, a day before the Monsoon Session of Parliament begins, as the government prepares to outline its legislative agenda and the Opposition readies a list of issues it intends to raise during the session.

The meeting, scheduled for 11 a.m., is held ahead of every Parliament session to facilitate discussions between the government and political parties on the business expected to be taken up in both Houses.

The Monsoon Session is scheduled to run from July 20 to Aug. 13. The government is expected to introduce several significant bills during the session, making it one of the busiest legislative periods of the year.

The session is also expected to witness sharp exchanges between the treasury benches and the Opposition, with several political developments having altered the composition of parliamentary parties in recent weeks.

The Trinamool Congress has undergone internal changes following its defeat in the Assembly elections, with 20 of its Members of Parliament merging with the National Citizens Party of India and seeking separate seating arrangements in the Lok Sabha. Three Rajya Sabha members from the party have resigned and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.

In Maharashtra, six Lok Sabha MPs from Shiv Sena (UBT) have joined the Shiv Sena led by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, while seven Aam Aadmi Party members in the Rajya Sabha have also joined the BJP.

The Opposition is expected to raise the alleged NEET-UG paper leak case and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s remarks on casualties during Operation Sindoor. The Congress has submitted a breach of privilege notice against the Defence Minister over the remarks.

Earlier, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced that the Monsoon Session would be held from July 20 to Aug. 13.

“On the recommendation of the Govt of India, Hon’ble President, Smt. Droupadi Murmu ji has approved the summoning of both the Houses of Parliament for the Monsoon Session 2026. The Session will commence on July 20, 2026 and continue till August 13, 2026, for meaningful debate, discussion and decisions on issues of National Importance,” Rijiju said in a post on X.

The all-party meeting is expected to provide an indication of the issues likely to dominate proceedings when Parliament convenes the following day.
