The Mormugao Taluka Cluster 11 leg of the Subroto Mukherjee Under-17 Boys Football Tournament 2026-27 began on Monday at Rose Circle Ground, Sada, with Deepvihar High School, Sada, and St. Andrew’s Higher Secondary School, Vasco, registering opening-day victories to advance in the competition.
Organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, the tournament featured two competitive fixtures that showcased promising young football talent from schools across Mormugao Taluka.
Deepvihar make impressive start
Deepvihar High School, Sada, opened its campaign with a convincing 4-2 victory over Mt. Litera Zee School in the first match of the day.
Shawaz Shaikh starred for Deepvihar with two goals, while Craegan Palekar and Vivek Khavijan added one each to seal the win.
Mt. Litera Zee School responded through Ayaan Arish and Judan Fernandes, but the side was unable to overturn Deepvihar’s early advantage despite creating several attacking opportunities.
The victory gives Deepvihar a confident start to its Cluster II campaign as the school looks to progress further in the prestigious inter-school football tournament.

St. Andrew’s edge thrilling contest
The second fixture proved to be a closely fought affair as St. Andrew’s Higher Secondary School, Vasco, overcame Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School, Cortalim, 5-3 in a penalty shootout after the teams finished 1-1 at the end of regulation time.
Nolan Rodrigues scored for St. Andrew’s, while Roydon Monteiro found the equaliser for O.L.P.S., sending the match into penalties.
With little separating the two sides throughout normal time, St. Andrew’s kept its composure during the shootout to secure victory and move into the next stage of the tournament.
Both matches were played in competitive spirit, with players displaying determination and skill despite the challenging ground conditions at Rose Circle Ground.
The Mormugao Taluka Cluster 11 tournament forms part of the qualifying rounds of the Subroto Mukherjee Football Tournament, one of India’s longest-running and most prestigious inter-school football competitions, providing young footballers an opportunity to compete at higher levels.
