The Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) organised a Roman Konkani Orthography Workshop at St. Jerome’s Church Hall in Mapusa, equipping participants with the principles and rules needed to write Konkani in the Roman script.
The workshop was conducted by Konkani scholar and assistant professor Dr. Fr. Luis Gomes along with teacher and writer Melissa Simoes. Participants learned the principles of Roman Konkani orthography—the standard system of spelling and writing Konkani using the Roman alphabet—through interactive sessions and practical exercises.
Participants also learned about the correct usage of the language and aspects of its literary tradition during the programme.
The workshop opened with a welcome address by DKA Secretary Agnelo Borim in the presence of Fr. Tomas Lobo, Parish Priest of St. Jerome’s Church, Mapusa. Also present were DKA President Fr. Myron Jeson Barreto, DKA Vice-President Anthony San Fernandes, Dr. Fr. Luis Gomes and Melissa Simoes.
Addressing the gathering, Fr. Myron Jeson Barreto thanked participants for their response to the workshop and encouraged them to continue promoting Roman Konkani through reading, writing and the recitation of prayers in the language.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Anthony San Fernandes. Participation certificates were distributed by Fr. Aestrony Costa, Assistant to the Parish Priest of St. Jerome’s Church.
