A free heart health screening camp held at Nagoa in Salcete on Saturday offered residents basic cardiac health checks and consultations, with organisers also announcing free follow-up echocardiography (ECHO) tests for patients requiring further evaluation.

The camp, titled “Healthy Heart,” was organised on July 12 by the Zilla Panchayat Nuvem Constituency in association with the Village Panchayat of Nagoa at the village panchayat’s multipurpose hall.

Consultant cardiologist Dr. Milind Desai guided the camp, where participants underwent blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar testing, electrocardiograms (ECGs) and other basic health assessments. Based on the results, attendees received medical advice on managing their heart health.

Dr. Desai also said that patients identified as requiring additional cardiac evaluation would be provided free echocardiography (ECHO) tests.

The programme was attended by Anthony Cedly Braganza, Zilla Panchayat member representing the Nuvem constituency, as chief guest, and Gabriel Fernandes, Sarpanch of the Village Panchayat of Nagoa, as guest of honour.

Representatives of the Village Panchayat of Nagoa said organising health camps for residents has been an ongoing effort of the panchayat over the years.

Braganza said he intended to organise more health camps in the future with the support of the Nuvem, Verna and Nagoa panchayats, along with social workers and members of the community.
