Droupadi Murmu presented the National Florence Nightingale Awards 2026 to nursing personnel at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on International Nurses Day, May 12.
Among the awardees was Ms Raksha Rupo Parvatkar, Ward In-charge and Ward Sister at Goa Medical College Rural Health and Training Centre and Hospital, Bambolim, who was recognised for 29 years of service in the nursing profession.
In her message on the occasion, President Murmu said the awards recognised the contribution of nursing personnel and healthcare professionals across the country.
“This occasion is a fitting tribute to the invaluable contribution of nursing personnel and healthcare professionals who serve the nation with compassion and unwavering dedication. Nursing personnel exemplify the highest standards of service and play a crucial role in delivering quality healthcare, often in the most challenging circumstances,” the President said.
“I commend all the awardees for their inspiring devotion to duty and their tireless efforts in upholding the highest standards of patient care,” she added.
© PIBMs Parvatkar began her career as a Nursing Officer after completing her General Nursing and Midwifery qualification. She later upgraded her professional qualifications by obtaining a nursing degree.
She has been involved in organising Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) programmes, conferences, health melas and public health awareness activities. Her work in community health and professional development has earned her several letters of appreciation during her career.
The National Florence Nightingale Awards were instituted in 1973 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare as recognition for meritorious services rendered by nursing personnel to society.
