Goa posted a solid 278 for 7 in 90 overs on the opening day of their Cooch Behar Trophy Elite (U-19, four-day) match against Chandigarh at the GCA Academy Ground, Porvorim, on Tuesday. After winning the toss, Chandigarh elected to bowl.

Goa’s innings was built on a strong start by openers Aditya Kota and Sarthak Bhike, who put on 87 runs for the first wicket in 32.2 overs. Aditya scored 46 with eight boundaries before falling four runs short of a half-century, while Sarthak followed it up with a composed 71, which included seven fours.

Shaantanu Nevagi anchored the middle order with a fine knock of 92 off 153 balls, striking 14 boundaries. He added 57 runs for the second wicket with Sarthak and later shared a 43-run stand with captain Yash Kasvankar. Goa were well placed at 257 for 4 before losing momentum in the final hour.

Shaantanu missed out on a century.

Ankan Latka triggered the late collapse by removing Yash Kasvankar (10) and Aradhya Goyal (0) in the same over. Shaantanu was then bowled soon after, followed by the quick dismissals of Nitin Ghadi (8) and Sai Naik (23), as Goa slipped to 270 for 7.

At stumps, Chigurupati Venkata (4 not out) and Mihir Kudalkar (4 not out) were at the crease, with Goa looking to push the total further on the second day.
