
A walkathon and kidney health awareness programme was organised at Victor Hospital in Margao on the occasion of World Kidney Day.
The event began at 9:00 AM with participants assembling at Gate No. 2 of the hospital premises. The walkathon was flagged off by PWD Minister and Margao MLA Dr Digambar Kamat.
Doctors, hospital staff, patients, volunteers and members of the public participated in the walk aimed at spreading awareness about kidney health and the importance of early diagnosis and prevention of kidney-related diseases.
The walkathon route began from Victor Hospital, proceeded to the Margao Municipality Garden and returned to the hospital premises. Participants carried placards promoting healthy lifestyle habits and regular health check-ups to prevent kidney diseases.
Following the walkathon, a kidney health awareness session was conducted by medical specialists Dr Shital Lengade, Dr Victor Coelho and Dr Raghuram Bhat. The doctors spoke about the importance of kidney health, early detection of kidney disorders and preventive care.
The session also highlighted lifestyle practices such as maintaining proper hydration, balanced nutrition and regular medical screening to reduce the risk of kidney disease.
Addressing those present, Dr Digambar Kamat appreciated the initiative to create public awareness on kidney health and emphasised the need for preventive healthcare.
Members of community organisations including Rotary Club of Margao Midtown, Rotary Club Margao Sunrise, Lions Club Margao and JCI Fatorda Town also took part in the programme.
The event concluded with interaction between doctors and participants.
