Probe Sought Into Damage to Margao Civic Vehicle

Margao Congress Block Convener Savio Coutinho has demanded an inquiry into the damage caused to a Margao Municipal Council (MMC) vehicle that had been deployed during the Ponda by-election last month.

Coutinho said he received information that the Corolla Altis vehicle, earlier used by the MMC chairperson, had been vandalised and was being kept in the basement of the Mathany Saldanha Complex. Following this, he visited the site along with media personnel to inspect the vehicle and called for a detailed probe into the incident.

According to Coutinho, his sources indicated that the vehicle may have been used for unofficial purposes. He claimed that during an altercation at an unidentified location, the windshield of the car was smashed using a heavy object. The inspection also revealed significant damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle.

He urged the District Collector and the MMC Chief Officer to file a police complaint and initiate a thorough investigation to determine responsibility and recover the losses incurred.

“Irrespective whether the Collectors Office or the MMC is responsible, the financial burden towards the repairs of the vehicle should not be thrust upon the public exchequer,” Coutinho said.
