Progress High School, Sankhali emerged champions of the Goa Cricket Association’s Dilip Sardesai Trophy 2025-26 State-Level Under-16 Cricket Tournament after defeating New Educational Institute, Curchorem by 16 runs in the final played at Chapora Ground.
After winning the toss, New Educational Institute elected to field first. Progress High School made 95 for 4 in their allotted 10 overs, posting what proved to be a match-winning total.
Vedant Naik scored 29 runs from 23 deliveries, while Amish Gawas top-scored with 37 runs off 23 balls. Swayam Sawal remained unbeaten on 12 runs to help his side finish strongly.
For New Educational Institute, Tanishq Naik was the pick of the bowlers, returning figures of 2 for 15 in two overs. Shaurya Fadte also chipped in with one wicket for 16 runs.
In reply, New Educational Institute were restricted to 79 for 7 in their 10 overs while chasing a target of 96.
Uzair Shaikh led the batting effort with 30 runs from 20 balls. Tirthesh Chandgadkar contributed 12 runs, while Shaurya Fadte played a quick knock of 16 runs off just seven deliveries. However, the side fell short of the target as Progress High School maintained control of the contest.
The Sankhali school’s bowlers delivered disciplined performances throughout the innings. Mayank Gawade claimed two wickets, while Sparsh Gawas, Swaraj Fadte and Amish Gawas picked up one wicket each.
With the victory, Progress High School, Sankhali secured the Dilip Sardesai Trophy and were crowned state-level Under-16 champions for the 2025-26 season.
The prize distribution ceremony was attended by Siddhesh Salgaokar, Aniket Mayekar and Prasad Surlakar.
