Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) commemorated the birth anniversary of its founder president, Late Rev. Fr. Freddy J. Da Costa, with a programme at Goa University’s Taleigao Plateau campus in collaboration with the Shenoi Goembab School of Languages and Literature.
The event focused on Fr. Da Costa’s contribution to Roman Konkani literature and his role in promoting the language through his writings, editorial work, books, magazines, tiatrs and plays.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Remy Dias, Professor and Head of the Department of History at Government College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Quepem, presented a paper titled “A Critical Analysis of Fr. Freddy J. Da Costa’s Konkani Literature through Gulab Magazine.” He highlighted Fr. Da Costa’s literary work and his contribution to the growth of Roman Konkani literature through his publications and editorial efforts.
Presiding over the programme, DKA President Fr. Myron Jeson Barreto paid tribute to the organisation’s founder.
“Fr. Freddy was an eminent writer, an inspiring preacher, a courageous leader and a committed champion of Roman Konkani. Through books, magazines, tiatrs and plays, he worked tirelessly for the promotion of our language. It is our responsibility to follow in his footsteps and continue to preserve and promote Roman Konkani literature,” he said.
Hanumant Chandrakant Chopdekar, Vice-Dean (Academics) of the Shenoi Goembab School of Languages and Literature, spoke on the importance of collaboration in promoting and developing the Konkani language.
Among those present were Dr. Prakash S. Parienkar, Vice-Dean (Research), Anthony San Fernandes, Vice-President of DKA, Agnelo Borim, Secretary, Willy Goes, Treasurer, Kripali Naik, Sonia Gadkar and Fausto V. Da Costa, brother of Late Rev. Fr. Freddy J. Da Costa.
The programme began with a floral tribute to Fr. Da Costa’s portrait. Sonia Gadkar delivered the welcome address, Agnelo Borim proposed the vote of thanks and Nigel Pereira compered the event.
