Goa Forward Party MLA Vijai Sardesai on Sunday raised concerns over what he termed a steady “northward drift” of key infrastructure and major activities in the state, cautioning that Goa’s identity and cultural balance could be at risk if the trend continues.
Addressing supporters at Fatorda Square, Sardesai pointed to the operational status of Manohar International Airport and the uncertain future of civilian operations at Dabolim Airport as indicators of what he described as a growing regional imbalance.
“Major activities are moving North. The airport at Manohar International Airport is operational, while civilian operations at Dabolim Airport face an uncertain future. This is not just about infrastructure. This is about identity,” Sardesai said.
He warned that if the present trajectory remains unchecked, even Goa’s iconic Carnival could gradually lose its traditional roots and character.
“If this drift continues, even our Carnival — the pride of Goa — risks losing its roots. We will not allow Goa to be sidelined in its own land,” he asserted.
Calling for unity among Goans, Sardesai said the gathering at Fatorda Square symbolised a larger call to safeguard Goa’s identity.
“At Fatorda Square, we stand for one thing: Make Goa, Goa again. Goemkarponn is not a slogan. It is who we are,” he stated.
Sardesai further cautioned that failure to act collectively could have lasting consequences for the state’s cultural and regional equilibrium.
“If we don’t unite now, we risk losing everything that makes Goa, Goa. Rise. Unite. Protect Goa,” he urged.
