MLA Vijai Sardesai responded in the Goa Assembly on Tuesday after the Speaker asked him to apologise within 24 hours over an incident that took place in the Assembly gallery on Friday.
Sardesai said he respects the Speaker and considers him an ideal in a democratic House. He added that he has been an MLA for fourteen years and has served both in the government and in the opposition.
He also stated that he has held positions as a Minister and Deputy Chief Minister and therefore understands how the House functions.
Sardesai said that as a people’s representative, it is his duty to raise issues concerning all Goans. He noted that MLAs are given the right to issue passes to members of the public and that he had issued such passes.
However, he said he cannot control the behaviour of those who receive the passes. Sardesai also stated that he had no knowledge of their behaviour or intentions.
