Goa Forward Party chief and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai has written to Governor Ashok Gajapathi Raju seeking the immediate reconvening of the Goa Legislative Assembly, citing “extraordinary circumstances” following the adjournment of the recent session.
The Assembly session had been adjourned in view of the Model Code of Conduct for the Ponda by-election. Sardesai, however, pointed out that with the cancellation of the by-election, there is now a need to reconvene the House to address pending legislative business.
He raised concerns that the state budget was passed without adequate discussion, and stressed that several important issues, including private member bills, remain pending. Among these are proposals related to the protection of agricultural lands in Goa, reservations for people of Goan origin, and the creation of dedicated spaces for lactating mothers.
In his letter, Sardesai urged that the House must meet urgently to deliberate and pass the proposed Goa Protection of Agricultural Lands Act, 2026. He said that safeguarding Goa’s farmland and village ecosystem cannot be delayed.
The Fatorda MLA also highlighted concerns regarding the Ponda by-election developments, the state government’s proposed ₹1,000 crore borrowing, and what he described as a growing erosion of democratic processes.
Sardesai has appealed to the public to support the demand for reconvening the Assembly, stating that several critical matters affecting the state require immediate legislative attention.
