The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its candidates for the upcoming biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka, along with nominees for the Karnataka Legislative Council.
The names were approved by the party’s Central Election Committee and released through a statement issued by the BJP’s central office in New Delhi on Sunday evening.
For the Rajya Sabha elections, the party has nominated Mahesh Kewat from Madhya Pradesh and M. Nagaraja from Karnataka.
The BJP has also named Lingaraj Patil and Raghu Kautilya as its candidates for the Karnataka Legislative Council elections.
The announcement comes ahead of the June 18 Rajya Sabha elections, with Monday being the final day for filing nomination papers.
The latest nominations add to the BJP’s preparations for the upcoming contests in both states. In Madhya Pradesh, the party had earlier fielded Tarun Chugh and Rajneesh Agrawal, while the Congress has nominated Meenakshi Natarajan. There had been speculation in political circles that the BJP could field an additional candidate for the Rajya Sabha seat from the state.
The party’s selection of candidates reflects its effort to strengthen its representation in Parliament and state legislatures. The nominations also indicate the BJP’s focus on consolidating its position in Madhya Pradesh, where it remains electorally strong, and Karnataka, a state that continues to be politically significant for all major parties.
The Rajya Sabha elections will determine representation in the Upper House of Parliament, while the Karnataka Legislative Council elections will shape the composition of the state’s legislative council.
Arun Singh, BJP National General Secretary and party headquarters in-charge, announced the names through the official statement.
