Rajeev Chandrasekhar, president of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Kerala, on Monday said the party would wait for the final election results before issuing any formal response, while expressing confidence that voters would reject what he described as “divisive and corrupt politics” of the opposition.

Speaking to media, Chandrasekhar stressed that no political party could predetermine electoral outcomes in a democracy, taking aim at both the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Indian National Congress.

“We will wait for the election results. The results will come out by midday today, and we will then comment at that point. We are in a democracy. No political party can decide the fate of another political party,” he said.

Targeting opposition leaders, he added, “This is typical arrogance of the CPM and the Congress, where they think somehow that they will decide what the people will do. That is not at all correct. This is a democracy. This is not China or Russia.”

Chandrasekhar also voiced confidence in the electorate, stating that voters in Kerala would reject corruption and divisive politics.

“I am very confident that the divisive politics of the INDI Alliance will be defeated. The corruption of the INDI alliance parties will be defeated, and people will choose to put their state on a track of corruption-free governance,” he said.

Meanwhile, early counting trends in Kerala indicated a strong lead for the United Democratic Front (UDF), which was ahead in 52 seats, with the Congress leading in 49 of them. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) was leading in 21 seats, with CPI(M) candidates ahead in 41 constituencies.

In Malappuram district, early trends showed the UDF gaining an edge across multiple constituencies, though the LDF continued to contest closely in select seats. In Kondotty, UDF candidate T P Ashraf Ali was ahead by 89 votes. In Eranad, P K Basheer led by 41 votes, while in Nilambur, Aryadan Shoukath held a 79-vote lead. In Wandoor, A P Anil Kumar was ahead by 65 votes.
