The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has criticised the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in Goa following fresh increases in fuel prices, alleging that the move would place additional financial pressure on citizens already dealing with rising costs of living.
GPCC Media and Communication Department Chairman Amarnath Panjikar said petrol prices had been increased by Rs 2.61 per litre and diesel prices by Rs 2.71 per litre. He said the latest revision marked the fourth fuel price increase within a period of less than two weeks.
Panjikar alleged that the BJP’s “double engine government” had become a “double trouble government” for ordinary citizens facing inflationary pressures.
“People are already battling rising prices of cooking gas, food items, medicines, and other essential commodities. Instead of providing relief, the BJP Government is continuously increasing the burden on common citizens through fuel price hikes,” Panjikar said.
Questioning the Central Government’s handling of fuel pricing, Panjikar also raised concerns over repeated assurances relating to economic stability and relief.
“The country deserves answers on why fuel prices are skyrocketing despite repeated promises of economic stability and relief,” he said.
He further alleged that inflation and unemployment concerns were not receiving adequate attention.
“While people in India are struggling to survive under crushing inflation, the Prime Minister is busy distributing ‘Melodi’ chocolates during foreign visits rather than delivering meaningful relief to citizens back home,” Panjikar remarked.
According to Panjikar, repeated increases in fuel prices could affect transportation costs and lead to higher prices for vegetables, milk, groceries and other essential commodities.
He said the impact would extend to middle-class families, youth, taxi operators and small businesses.
The GPCC has demanded that the Central Government reduce excise duties on petrol and diesel and introduce measures to provide relief to citizens facing inflationary pressures.
