Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday said the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will finalise its seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in a “friendly manner.”
Speaking ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally in Tiruchirappalli, Goyal said discussions on seat-sharing within the alliance were ongoing and details would be announced once an agreement is reached.
“We discuss these things inside the room, and when we finalise, we will let the press know. It will be finalised in a friendly manner,” he said.
Expressing confidence in the alliance’s prospects in the state, Goyal said the NDA would form the government in Tamil Nadu under the leadership of AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami.
He also criticised the ruling DMK government, alleging corruption and accusing Chief Minister MK Stalin of pursuing divisive politics. Goyal claimed there was growing public support for the NDA in the state.
According to the Union Minister, voters in Tamil Nadu were seeking change and better governance. He said the NDA government at the Centre, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was committed to development in the state.
Goyal also accused the DMK leadership of internal divisions and claimed that the public was dissatisfied with the political leadership in the state.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to inaugurate, dedicate to the nation, lay the foundation stone and flag off multiple development projects worth around Rs 5,650 crore in Tiruchirappalli.
In the petroleum sector, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited’s City Gas Distribution Network in The Nilgiris and Erode districts, with an investment of over Rs 3,680 crore. The project aims to provide piped natural gas connections to more than 8.8 lakh households, supply gas to over 200 commercial establishments, and set up more than 201 CNG stations.
The Prime Minister will also dedicate to the nation a 672 Thousand Metric Tonnes Per Annum Lube Blending Plant of Indian Oil Corporation at Manali in Chennai. The facility, developed at an investment of about Rs 1,490 crore, is expected to strengthen India’s lubricants manufacturing capacity.
Tamil Nadu is expected to hold Assembly elections later this year, with the AIADMK–BJP-led NDA seeking to challenge the incumbent DMK-led alliance.
