In a major bureaucratic reshuffle on the final day of the financial year, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment and transfer of more than 40 senior officers across key central ministries and departments.
The changes cover several crucial portfolios, including personnel, finance, rural development, chemicals and fertilisers, tourism, minority affairs, and information and broadcasting.
Nivedita Shukla Verma, currently serving as Secretary in the Department of Chemicals and Petro-Chemicals under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers, has been appointed Secretary in the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions. She will also hold additional charge as Secretary of the Department of Pensions and Pensioners Welfare.
Chanchal Kumar, who was serving under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, has been appointed Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. He succeeds Sanjay Jaju, who has been reassigned to the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region.
Narendra Bhooshan has been appointed Secretary in the Department of Land Resources under the Ministry of Rural Development.
Chandra Sekhar Kumar, currently Secretary in the Ministry of Minority Affairs, will take charge as Chief Executive Officer of the National Rainfed Area Authority under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
Srivatsa Krishna, Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, has been appointed Secretary in the Ministry of Minority Affairs, while Tejveer Singh will assume charge as Secretary in the Department of Chemicals and Petro-Chemicals.
In the financial sector, Sanjay Lohiya, currently Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Mines, has been appointed Special Secretary in the Department of Financial Services under the Ministry of Finance. He is set to take over as Secretary of the department following the retirement of Nagaraju Maddirala on May 31, 2026.
Rohit Kansal, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Textiles, has been appointed Secretary in the Department of Rural Development, succeeding Shailesh Kumar Singh upon his retirement on March 31, 2026.
Bharat Harbanslal Khera, Additional Secretary in the Department of Consumer Affairs, will serve as Officer on Special Duty in the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. He will subsequently take over as Secretary after the retirement of Subhas Chandra Lal Das on April 30, 2026.
Abhishek Singh, Director General of the National Informatics Centre, has been appointed Director General of the National Testing Agency under the Ministry of Education, in the rank and pay of Secretary to the Government of India.
The ACC has also approved in-situ upgradation of several officers to the level of Special Secretary in the rank and pay of Secretary. These include Bhuvnesh Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of the Unique Identification Authority of India; Sanjay Rastogi, Director General of the National Archives of India; and Sajjan Singh Yadav, Additional Secretary in the Department of Expenditure under the Ministry of Finance.
